candidates for the show's web description
new:
Electronica, experimental rock, and hip-hop.
(or, as a joke: One of only five shows on WDCV that doesn't sound like the DJ's parents picked the songs.)

from last semester:
"CLEVER MUSIC."
"NO DAVE MATTHEWS, NO CLASSIC ROCK. I MEAN, WHAT THE
HELL. SERIOUSLY."
"THE EAST COAST MORNING BECOMES ECLECTIC. IF YOU DON'T
KNOW WHAT THAT IS, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT."
"THE VERY BEST MUSIC OF ALL GENRES."
"A RADIO SHOW FOR PEOPLE OBSESSED WITH MUSIC."
*Ironically, I didn't end up submitting a description till early November and it was ignored by the station manager. I went with "clever music." I thought that was a lot better than the blatantly incorrect label of "Indie Music" (originally "Indie Rock" until I told the DJ I mentored with... not because I was whining, but because it was hilarious).

My guide to WDCV (aka my favorite shows)
On a station with a lot of frankly wack shows (it's tragic how they misuse their opportunity to play something different), I've made a guide to what I think is truly worth listening to. Hope it helps. Again, you can tune in online by clicking on the icon on the front page. (P.S. Not all the shows I don't list suck, they're just not among my favorites.)

Sunday Monday Thursday Friday Saturday
Noon-2PM: Bob Zieff
Jazz, you cool cats.

10PM-Midnight: Dave Richeson
Indie rock.

Noon-2PM: CJ Gaffney
Dirty reggae.

4-6PM: Me
Duh. (See playlists.)

6-8PM: Chris Kushmider
I don't mean this in a bad way, but "fey music" is how I describe it.

8-10PM: Mike
WDCV's only all-ska show. Lots of respectable groups featured. Fun, smart.

8-10PM: Gus
World music, with weekly themes. Very professional.
4-6PM: Jole/Joel
Bluegrass.

10PM-Midnight: O.T.
Uncensored hip-hop spun by a charismatic DJ. Hands down my favorite show.

Noon-2PM: David Imlay
Blood curdling heavy metal.

Midnight-2AM: Jess & Maia
Adorably ridiculous radio show featuring synth-pop, indie, techno, rock, showtunes, and much more. One of the DJ's lives right above me, I think.

Model for my show: WMUC 88.1 University of Maryland, College Park.

VH1 Presents The List. My CD collection (useful for making requests or determining what kind of music I'll play on my show). Also, I keep a chart of interesting music coming out soon.

Rant on Heavy Rotation songs. (To the executive staff: This is just my opinion. Get over it.)
